Elk Knob State Park

Yesterday I hiked one of NC’s newest parks–Elk Knob State Park in Meat Camp, NC. It was recently constructed as a preservation area for the elevation’s delicate habitat. The summit has both a north and south view and tops out at 5,520 feet. With lots of switchbacks and a 1.9 mile hike to the summit, it’s definitely a strenuous, but rewarding hike. It was a beautiful day in the mountains with lots of clear skies, and of course, fall colors.

I also had the opportunity to try out a new lens–Canon 100mm f/2.8L macro. I rented it for a wedding I shot this past weekend and it proves to be a powerful tool to get those small details. Lending itself well to nature photography, I was thrilled to be able to get up close and personal with a few leaves, lichens and ferns 😉

Enjoy these delightful images…
